Position Information: DescriptionThe purpose of the position is to provide academic advisement, recruitment, and retention to undergraduate students at the University of North Dakota. This position helps to advise any/all undergraduate majors and minors. Academic advisors help to serve the needs of the Core Advising team as well as any unmet student needs across campus. Academic advisors will utilize Campus Connection (Academic Requirement Reports), Degree Map, and Starfish to advise and interact with students regularly. Advisors will attend commencement ceremonies and other student success programming.Duties & ResponsibilitiesGeneral Advising

  • Provide academic, advanced degree program, and career advising for current on campus and online undergraduate programs assigned to including knowledge of all degree requirements
  • Advise incoming students during new student transition
  • Understand needs of various student populations (e.g., online, military-affiliated, athletes, international, and otherwise diverse student backgrounds)
  • Understanding and appropriate use of various advising models
  • Participation in assessment of advising
  • Meet with prospective and transfer students interested in the university and programs assigned to
  • Collaborate with departments of programs assigned to address advising needs for the department
  • Write letters of recommendation for students and serve as a reference for students as neededProcess incoming transfer/readmitted and Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory requests
    • Work with incoming transfer and readmitted students
    • Process S/U formsUnderstand and accurately communicate resources available students / Use of appropriate technology tools for advising
      • Basics of financial aid
      • Career exploration tools (e.g., FOCUS 2, Handshake, career services events, pairings of degree options, graduate or professional degree options)
      • Understand institutional specific policies and procedures such as term dates and deadline, ES petition, Ad Pro petition, withdraw processes, graduation application, changes of major, collaborative course processes, readmission and reinstatement processes, academic grievance processes, etc.
      • Understand program/college/University goals for retention and graduation
      • Understand Campus Connection, College Scheduler, Degree Map, Starfish, and BlackboardParticipation in student centered events, professional development, and other duties as assigned
        • Participation in graduation ceremonies
        • Participation in recruitment fairs, prospective student and guest visits, welcome weekend/meetings, etc.
        • Attend on campus workshops for professional development
        • Participate in college and campus-wide advising events and outreach
        • Yearly participation in regional/national advising professional development opportunities
        • Provide assistance to other advisors and their students as needed for extended leaves and absencesRequired Competencies

            • Bachelors Degree
            • Experience working in higher education
