to learn to scrub Description: The position is within the Operating
Room department. The department consists of 1 endoscopy suite and 2
operating rooms. The average number of cases per day includes 5
endoscopies Monday through Friday. On alternating Wednesdays, there
are 9 cataract surgeries scheduled. Approximately 3 scheduled
cesarean sections occur each month. 1 to 2 podiatry cases are
performed every Monday. Common surgical cases include endoscopy,
cesarean sections, D&Cs, cataract extractions, and podiatry
procedures. Endoscopy and cesarean section experience is preferred
but not required. Scrubbing or willingness to learn to scrub is
required. Previous travel experience is preferred but not
mandatory. A charge nurse and a working supervisor are present on
each shift. The charge nurse shares the workload with the scheduled
staff. There is one certified surgical technologist in the
department; however, registered nurses are cross-trained to scrub
and perform all surgical tech roles. The electronic medical record
system utilized is Meditech. Shifts run from Monday to Friday from
6 AM to 2:30 PM, with on-call duties one night per week and every
third weekend. Rotating holiday call coverage is also a
requirement. The response time for call is 20 minutes, but the team
aims to respond as soon as possible. If there are no surgical
cases, staff may float to assist with outpatient IV therapy, wound
dressing changes, and blood product transfusions. The dress code is
ceil blue. Hospital scrubs are provided, but staff may bring their
own ceil blue scrubs for laundering. The orientation period
typically lasts 1 to 2 weeks, with a variable length for buddy
on-call orientation depending on the surgical case load and comfort
level of new staff. Candidates must be within a 50-mile radius of
the facility. There is a requirement for upfront requests for time
off. Cancellation policies allow the hospital to cancel shifts
under certain conditions. Charting is done using the Meditech
system. A BSN degree is not required for this position. 5 Benefits
