Position Information: DescriptionThe--Ronald E. McNair Assistant Director--oversees the preparation of--twenty-eight low-income, first-generation or student populations who are underrepresented in doctoral studies for entrance into a graduate program that results in a doctoral degree.--The McNair Program is designed for UND students who have completed their sophomore year in college and who have not previously received a B.A./B.S. degree.--Services provided by McNair include: the opportunity to earn stipends by performing academic year and/or summer research, faculty mentoring relationships, tutoring, housing allowance, GRE preparation, academic and personal advising, and travel to professional conferences, cultural events, and graduate institutions, as well as other supportive services.--The position is responsible to--track McNair scholars for ten years to document completion of doctoral studies.Duties & Responsibilities

  • Recruit and admit eligible McNair participants to the program
  • Responsible for providing leadership in the development and maintenance of the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program services and project activities as they relate to low-income, first-generation and underrepresented students by encouraging, preparing, and supporting their matriculation into a graduate program of their choice.--
  • Manage day-to-day grant operations in conjunction with TRIO Director
  • Prepare and manage annual budgets
  • Work as a liaison between TRIO Project Director, project participants, faculty mentors, and the Ronald E. McNair Acceptance Committee.--
  • Supervise and direct project Program Coordinator on a daily basis; tutors and instructors as they are hired and on a biweekly basis.--
  • Develop, maintain, and report grant implementation and federal regulations both to the U.S. Department of Education and the University of North Dakota.Required Competencies

      • Master's degree in Counseling, Education, Psychology, Social Work, English, Management, or related field
      • Three years' experience working with low-income, first-generation and underrepresented college students (preferable with a TRIO grant)
      • Experience in higher education system
      • Successful completion of criminal history records check.In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity--and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. This position does not support visa sponsorship for continued employment.Preferred Qualifications
        • Ph.D. in Counseling, Education, Psychology, Social Work, English, Management, or related field.-- Experience in STEM academic departments as well as other College of Arts & Science departments.Experience with organizing committees and networking with university departments.Experience in working with university faculty.Experience in administration of grants, budget, personnel procedures and evaluation.Experience in grant writing, TRIO legislation/regulations and supervisory/administrative experience.Similar background as targeted population.
