Biomedical Equipment Technician – Information Systems (BMET-IS) is
responsible for the support, maintenance, and integration of
networked medical equipment and associated information systems.
This role focuses on the configuration, troubleshooting, and
security of computer-based medical devices, ensuring compliance
with industry standards and regulatory requirements. The BMET-IS
collaborates with clinical staff, IT teams, and vendors to optimize
medical device connectivity, data security, and interoperability
within the healthcare environment. Essential Duties and
Responsibilities · To perform this job successfully, an individual

Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot computer-based
medical equipment and networked medical systems. · Support and
manage medical information systems, including medical record
databases, proprietary software, and enterprise networked devices.
· Monitor and apply software patches, upgrades, and cybersecurity
measures to ensure secure and compliant system operations. · Work
with hospital IT and clinical engineering teams to configure and
secure VLANs, IP addressing, sub-netting, and other network
settings for medical devices. · Troubleshoot and resolve medical
device network communication issues, distinguishing between
networking and non-networking problems. · Ensure medical equipment
and networked systems meet Joint Commission, FDA, ISO, and VA
regulatory compliance standards. · Utilize and maintain network
test equipment and tools to diagnose and correct performance
issues. · Perform routine operational verification procedures,
planned maintenance, and repairs on server-based medical systems. ·
Provide technical training and support to BMETs, clinical users,
and IT personnel regarding the proper use and security of networked
medical equipment. · Act as a liaison between Biomedical
Engineering, IT, clinical departments, and vendors to ensure
interoperability and cybersecurity of medical systems. · Maintain
accurate documentation of medical device network configurations,
security settings, and troubleshooting activities. · Participate in
medical device procurement and system planning to ensure new
equipment meets connectivity and security requirements. · Conduct
risk assessments and implement security controls to protect medical
devices from unauthorized access and cyber threats. · Assist with
data collection and reporting for compliance audits and network
security reviews. · Support medical device replacement planning and
technology refresh initiatives. · Stay up to date with advancements
in medical IT systems, cybersecurity, and healthcare
interoperability standards. · Contribute to process improvement
initiatives related to medical device network management. · Develop
and maintain policies and procedures for medical device
cybersecurity and network maintenance. Travel Up to 75% travel
within the immediate location may be required. Work Schedule To be
discussed with supervisor. Qualifications · Associate degree in
applied science or equivalent military training. · Minimum of 3
years of hospital or healthcare experience performing medical
equipment maintenance, with at least 1 year of specialized
experience in medical information systems and networking. · Strong
knowledge of computer virus protection software, software patches
and upgrades, and cybersecurity tools. · Competency in maintaining
computer and server-based medical equipment, medical record
databases, and proprietary and generic software. · Experience with
TCP/IP, HL7, networking, network security, and DICOM standards. ·
Ability to troubleshoot network issues, including IP networking
problems, VLAN configuration, and network security issues. ·
Understanding of regulatory requirements and standards, including
International Standard Organization standards. · Familiarity with
network test equipment, technical literature, schematics, and
drawings. · Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical
material. · Excellent communication skills, both written and
verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical
and professional staff. · Must provide documentation of eligibility
to legally work in the United States. · Must be able to pass client
background screening for security clearance. Salary · $36.06 - $
42.00 per hour · $75,000.00 - $87,360.00 annually Work Environment
